Uncommon Home Built with Local Market Materials in Buenos Aires Posted: 15 Oct 2010 07:12 AM PDT Buenos Aires has a condominium typology called "PH" – a corridor connects houses aligned in a very long and narrow lot, measuring 7 meters by 6 meters. The coloured Min House created by Pop-Arq opens to its own patio but does not have a direct connection to the street. With just two rooms, this home is a very well thought interior so that it keeps space loss to a minimum and comfort to the maximum. The first floor is divided into a kitchen, dining and living room and the second floor contains the bedroom. There is a red tin container added to the building where the bathroom, stairs and storage are. The supposed price for remodeling this old building into a stylish condominium is $ 42.000. Uncommon objects were created with the help of the most common and economic materials from the local markets. The lot area covers just 42square meters, but there are a few beautiful ideas that make this house special: the bathroom furniture (closet, lavatory, laundry and flower pot) is made from recycled materials of the old house; wood and metal were reused to create a modern interior design. The beautiful light in the bathroom comes from the recycled acrylics used to construct the roof – a yellowish sunlight caresses the wooden walls. On the first floor the sun directly warms up the patio connected to the living area through wide folded window panels. Buenos Aires weather can be fully enjoyed in this small but stylish interior patio. This house is an example of good use of space. Strong and Masculine Office Furniture: Level by Gabriel Teixidó Posted: 15 Oct 2010 06:14 AM PDT Here is a unique looking office furniture set designed by Gabriel Teixidó for Spanish company AG Land 14. These desks have a very dynamic feel and thin edges. The sober color palette and the strong design give these furniture items a firm, masculine effect. Here is a statement from the designer: “Level is style. Style because it combines contemporary forms with craftsman tradition from the master cabinetmakers that produce each piece of furniture in the programme, one-by-one, with loving care and skill. Level is style. Style because it speaks of the values of whoever possesses it. Sensitivity towards beauty. Demands for a job well-done. Committed to producing new scenarios.” The Level series includes two office table models, the "T" type (brown) and the "L" type (black), each with its unique style. Enjoy the contemporary furniture fusion below and let us know what you think of this collection.

Majestic Private Home in UK with a Highly Modern Feel Posted: 15 Oct 2010 03:05 AM PDT We recently received this amazing interior design project from Sybarite, an architectural and design studio founded in 2002. Here are some extracts from the press release they sent us: “This complete refurbishment of a four floor / four bedroom Victorian townhouse in West London’s Brackenbury Village required sensitivity. The brief was to completely gut this wreck of a house and create a very liveable and practical home for this busy family with three young children. Although great design was on the wish list, the house mainly had to become a comfortable family home maximising the usable space and storage. The interior intervention juxtaposes old and new, respecting the Victorian heritage while applying a contemporary intervention which works seamlessly without jarring. The original staircase runs like spine through house, its minimal restoration allowing you to read its age so that it becomes the focal point against which a simple, elegant refurbishment is contrasted. Tying together the modern aspects of the house is the use of concrete, which is utilized in various places, polished as flooring and shuttered to clad several fireplaces throughout the house. An important element of the brief for this area was to maximise storage so that the whole family could easily share this space without it becoming too cluttered. Deep, floor to ceiling lacquered cupboards run along one whole wall, providing ample space to pack away toys and games so the room can be easily transformed from child’s playroom to relaxed entertaining area for grownups.”
